blackout (plural blackouts)

  1. a large-scale power failure, and resulting loss of electricity to consumers

  2. the mandatory blocking of all light emanating from buildings as imposed during World War II

  3. a temporary loss of memory caused by the intake of any substance or medication in which long term memory creation is impaired, therefore causing a complete inability to recall the past
